Associate Director of Communications

Job Description:

  • Manage key editorial, mission-driven projects within the communications department to expand Attendance Works’ reach
  • Lead production of tools, resources, reports, handouts, toolkits, and other materials
  • Establish production workflows, schedules, quality standards, and brand consistency
  • Manage relationships and workflows with outside vendors, including scoping, budgeting, and quality review
  • Maintain production tracking systems and communications support request processes
  • Design and implement strategies to expand engagement across social media platforms
  • Set social media goals and assess initiative effectiveness using analytics
  • Drive traffic to the Attendance Works website, tools, webinars, and resources
  • Develop social media and email promotional campaigns for products and technical assistance offerings
  • Maintain a content calendar and adapt organizational content for social and email channels
  • Lead production of Attendance Awareness Campaign materials and support the campaign microsite
  • Recruit new campaign partners and increase engagement among existing partners
  • Provide writing, design production, and promotion support for the campaign and webinar series
  • Manage relationships with campaign sponsors and deliver sponsor benefits
  • Support writing and editing of blog posts, promotional collateral, stories, press releases, op-eds, magazine articles, toolkit content, annual reports, and fundraising materials
  • Determine project details for communications and design contractors and monitor contract budgets
  • Facilitate meetings with designers and staff requesting design and production work
  • Track and report on Attendance Awareness Campaign and social media performance
  • Translate analytics into recommendations
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Ten years+ professional print and digital production and project management background
  • Excellent and engaging writing, editing and communication skills
  • Strong project management and cross-team collaboration skills
  • Ability to translate complex education and policy content for general audiences
  • Strong content creation skills, including writing for social media, email campaigns, and short-form promotional content
  • Knowledge of building engagement and following across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, and Bluesky
  • Evidence of successful positive response rate for communications outreach
  • Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools such as Hootsuite
  • Experience with email platforms such as Constant Contact and integrating email/social campaigns
  • Computer fluency in Google Suite, Word, Excel, and Adobe Suite
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control
  • Experience managing complex production workflows and competing priorities
  • Data-informed approach to strategy, including setting performance indicators and analyzing performance
  • Passion for issues affecting underserved, diverse children and youth, preschool to grade 12
  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish is desirable
  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience in Communications, Publishing, Journalism, or related fields
  • B.A. or M.A. in English, Journalism, Publishing, Communications, or a related field preferred
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector preferred
  • Experience leading multi-channel campaign communications
  • Demonstrated success overseeing design and production of reports, handouts, tools, and resources for diverse education audiences
  • Experience building robust social media platforms and overseeing social media campaigns
  • Experience managing multiple projects, timelines, authors, and team members across departments
  • Proven experience strategizing to meet measurable goals
  • Experience partnering with national nonprofit organizations and advancing education initiatives at statewide and district levels preferred
